Baby Elaina has been confirmed dead after Ohio police said human remains found last week match the DNA of the 19-month-old girl who had been missing since June.

The remains were found Thursday in the Toledo home of Steven King, the ex-boyfriend of Baby Elaina’s mother, Angela Steinfurth. The home is where the missing Ohio toddler was last seen. Both King and Steinfurth were charged with obstruction of justice for allegedly lying to authorities in their investigation of the missing girl; any additional charges in the wake of identifying Baby Elaina’s remains have yet to be announced.

“They’re not going anywhere anytime soon,” Toledo Police Sgt. Joe Heffernan told the Associated Press, referring to Steinfurth and King.

When the remains were discovered, authorities initially said it could take days or weeks to identify. But the Toledo Blade reported Tuesday that a DNA sample from the remains was sent to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation last week and that the work confirming the remains as belonging to Baby Elaina was done over the weekend.
