“Bachelorette” fans were left in shock at the end of part one of the season finale when Brooks Forester, the frontrunner for Desiree Hartsock’s love, decided to dump her. The contestant appeared stuck, going to talk to his mom and sister about his feelings before heading to Antigua. But according to “Bachelorette” host Chris Harrison, Brooks had other options … and decided not to take them.

Viewers will remember that Brooks’ main reason for dumping Des was that he wasn’t ready to propose – which is easy to understand because the ABC dating show is only a couple weeks long. A definite surprise for fans who saw how smitten Desiree was with the Salt Lake City resident, Chris Harrison explained post part one of the season finale that there have been signs all along that Brooks was not as serious.

“When I would sit with her in the deliberation room, it’s not my job to say, ‘You’re crazy! He doesn’t love you! Or ‘He’s not that into you!’ Harrison told ABC News. “It’s my job to try and ask the right questions to help her see that.”

For “The Bachelorette” host, one of the most glaring signs (besides every guy but Brooks saying “I love you” to Desiree) was when Desiree and Brooks came up with verbs to describe their love. “At the same time she goes, ‘We’re running!’ he’s like, ‘Jogging!’” Harrison recapped. “You could just tell they weren’t in the same place.”

But what some fans don’t know is that Brooks could have had a chance to be “in the same place” with Des. “I was just trying to vet the whole thing out before he made any rash decisions, because at the end of the day, I know we have a television show, but we are there to actually help Des,” Harrison said of his conversation with Brooks prior to the break up. “So if we needed to extend it, if we needed to figure something out, let’s do that.”

Chris Harrison asked Brooks if he was 100% sure about his decision and if he needed more time, and as viewers know, Brooks said that he was not in love with her. Is there a chance that he could change his mind? Many rumors surrounding part two of the finale hint that Brooks could return – but maybe not to propose. As Wetpaint.com points out previous bachelors have offered their ladies a promise ring instead.

“The Bachelorette” season finale part two will air from 8 – 10 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5. “The Bachelorette: After The Final Rose,” will air immediately after from 10 – 11 p.m.
