“The Bachelorette” went international in episode five. Desiree Hartsock and her 11 remaining contestants left Atlantic City for Munich, Germany and the drama followed them all the way to Europe.

With the number of guys fighting for Desiree’s heart dwindling, three dates are set up -- a one-on-one, a group date and a two-on-one. Stakes are high, especially for the two-on-one date because only one guy will remain in the running.

One-On-One Date

Chris scores the one-on-one date of the episode, and the pair leaves the rest of the guys to explore Munich together; however, as soon as Des heads off with Chris, Bryden realizes that he just HAS to tell Des that his feelings aren't progressing and that he’s going to go home. So instead of waiting until Des comes back from her one-on-one, Bryden stalks after them (“I hope I don’t ruin their date together”).

Asking Chris if he could steal Des for a minute, Chris is confused but let’s Bryden go talk to her. “I decided I’m actually going to go home,” Bryden tells her. And she surprisingly takes the news pretty well. “It was a long plane ride for you to think,” Des says to him. “Guess it’s a bummer if you knew that before.”

Saying goodbye to Bryden, Des tells the camera that she’s not going to let him affect her date with Chris; however, she heads back to Chris crying. Chris is smart and takes advantage of the situation, letting her know that he’s in this for the long haul and reading her a poem he wrote on the plane.

Group Date

Des and the guys go on a group date to a mountain and it’s pretty boring. The crew watch a yodeler and go sledding, but things heat up when the guys split off to get a little privacy with Des.

Zak informs Des that this is the second time he’s been to Germany, and the last time he was here he made a big life-changing decision. When he was in college he thought he was going to become a priest. He explained that he climbed to the top of one of the mountains and realized then that he wasn’t supposed to become a priest.

Meanwhile, James is acting cocky with the other guys, complaining about the group date after his one-on-one date with Des in Atlantic City. “He’s one way around her and another with us,” Drew says to the cameras, citing that he’s vulgar around the guys, but nice and caring in front of her.

Des gets a couple minutes alone with James, and he’s immediately confident that she’ll be handing him the group-date rose; however, he’s shocked when Des hands it to Brooks.

“I can’t believe Brooks got the rose,” James says angrily. “We’re two polar opposite people. It’s really hard to gage what Des likes.”

Two-On-One Date

Moving on from the group date, Des heads off for an awkward evening with Michael G. and Ben, and both guys are prepared to go down fighting.

“I see it being very unfortunate for Michael,” Ben says of the two-on-one date. Michael feels the same about his competition. “This is a nightmare, a two-on-one with the guy I find repulsive,” Michaels says to the camera, explaining that he knows that Des wants him to expose Ben. “Today is Armageddon … He will be found guilty of fraud and impersonation of a southern gentleman.”

The date starts off with Des pitching a polar bear plunge. And while the guys definitely don’t want to do it, they both agree to please Des. Fortunately, she’s just pulling their leg, and instead they hop into a hot tub boat. But the water isn’t the only thing heating up, Michael begins taking some serious jabs at Ben, questioning his faith and how he is as a father.

If that wasn’t awkward enough, dinner between the three gets worse. Michael’s attack on Ben leads Ben to walk off, and Des to warn him to cut it out. It initially looks like both guys will be sent home, but Des takes a couple minutes alone with each of them to sort out her feelings.

Ben takes that time to express how much he misses his son, and to explain why he hasn’t made an effort to make friends in the house. Michael on the other hand tells her that Ben has said some sketchy things – like how his bar could benefit from him being on “The Bachelorette.”

Des ends up choosing Michael, sending Ben home. And it’s when Ben’s chances of winning “The Bachelorette” are over that his true colors show. “God, she picked somebody who treats her like s**t,” Ben says in the limo. “You missed out on the single dad from Texas … We’re getting drunk … how long until I can be seen in public with somebody, cause I don’t want to wait.”

The Rose Ceremony

While Michael and Ben were out with Des, Drew and Kasey reveal to the rest of the guys that they think James is up to no good. After the group date, they explain that they overheard James telling Mikey that they could run Chicago together after being on “The Bachelorette.” The two supposedly talked about using a boat to take tall wealthy women out for an intimate setting on the water, and that if they make it into the top four they have a good shot of becoming the next “Bachelor.”

Drew and Kasey decide to tell Des about James during the cocktail party before the Rose Ceremony, but Des decides to scrap the cocktails and go straight to the ceremony.

The Rose Ceremony comes down to Mikey and James. While Kasey and Drew silently hope that it’s James that gets sent home, Des ultimately ends up choosing James and sending Mikey packing.

“Definitely surprised,” says Mikey when he walks out. “It doesn’t make sense to me. I just don’t understand why she didn’t want to get to know me more … I think Des is going to regret it.”
