Last season’s “Bachelor” Ben Higgins made it clear he wasn’t planning on kissing too many women up front. After that plan went out the window fairly quickly — who could forget his “first kiss” with Lace in episode 1? — this year’s “Bachelorette” lead says she did not set any boundaries for herself.

Ahead of ABC’s premiere of Season 12 of “The Bachelorette,” JoJo has revealed she went into filming with no hard and fast rules to live by. “I went into this saying, ‘You know what? I’m going to do whatever feels right in the moment. I’m not going to limit myself. I’m just going to let myself be me.’ And that’s what I did!” JoJo told International Business Times on a press call Friday.

The 25-year-old real estate developer added that going into the experience of dating 26 men at once with a plan would likely fail. “I didn’t want to set any rules because when you set rules you get into your own head and it doesn’t really work out anyway,” JoJo told IBT.

Despite her lack of rules, JoJo did keep one thought in her mind during filming: not to share too much too soon. Unlike her previous suitor Ben, who broke the“I love you” rule last season, JoJo says she didn’t want to give her cast mates false hope. “I really wanted to make sure that I didn’t say too much too soon,” she dished.

Then again, JoJo may not have thoroughly planned her stint on the show because she didn’t have much time to prepare. JoJo revealed ABC did not offer her the lead until a week before “The Bachelor” Season 20 finale in March where it was announced by host Chris Harrison she would be the next “Bachelorette.”

“They started calling me and just seeing what I was think[ing] about it. It was never anything set in stone until maybe a couple days before,” she said. JoJo shared that prior to being in talks with ABC, she thought she had a “zero percent” chance of being chosen since she was Ben’s runner-up. “It was not on my radar,” she said. “It never crossed my mind.”

After being secure that she was completely over her relationship with Ben, and deciding she was “excited to give love another chance,” JoJo signed on to the show. Fans can watch her meet her potential future husband on the Season 12 premiere of “The Bachelorette” Monday, May 23, at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC.
