European champions Barcelona cruised to win their second FIFA Club World Cup with a 4-0 hammering of Brazilian side Santos in Yokohama, Japan.

The match was billed as the battle between Argentine star Lionel Messi and Brazilian gem Neymar. In that respect, it was the Argentine who came out with full makrs, inspiring his Spanish side with two expertly taken goals.

He opened the scoring on 16 minutes with a sublime chip after being let through by Xavi's through ball.

Barca doubled their lead, seven minutes later, when Xavi got to the end of Dani Alves' cut-back to shoot in.

Cesc Fabregas then saw his shot come off the bar, but he wasn't to be denied for too long. Santos failed to deal with Alves' cross and Fabregas got on the end of it tap in.

After half-time, Barcelona eased off a bit but Santos struggled to muster a chance on goal. However, at the other end, Messi managed to secure a brace with eight minutes to go after rounding the keeper to score.
