Bates Motel
How will Sheriff Romero's feelings for Norma play out if he finds out the truth about Norman? "Bates Motel" fans will find out when the Season 2 finale airs on A&E on May 5. A&E

What will happen to Norman? That’s the question that every “Bates Motel” fan is dying to know, and the answer will be revealed when the Season 2 finale of the hit A&E series airs on May 5. However, all is not what it seems …

[WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!]

In episode 9, viewers learned that Norman was the one responsible for Miss Watson’s death. While locked in a box in the woods by Nick Ford, the teen had a flashback to the night of his teacher’s death -- the same night where she picked Norman up on the side of the road. All Norman initially remembered from that night was Miss Watson cleaning him up and then him running home. However, the flashback revealed that his teacher had seduced him.

After years of abuse buried deep inside him, the sexual advance from Miss Watson lead Norman to blackout and hallucinate his mother -- who told him to take care of the situation. As Norman was on top of Miss Watson, the teen grabbed a knife and cut his teacher’s throat … leaving her to bleed out in the bedroom.

The revelation shocked Norman, and “Bates Motel” fans will see how he deals with the truth in the Season 2 finale. However, this isn’t just going to affect Norman -- it’s going to affect Norma and Sheriff Romero as well.

Sheriff Romero wants to get to the bottom of Miss Watson’s death. And as we previously reported, he’s going to resort to a polygraph test to get the truth. But nothing is ever as simple as it seems on “Bates Motel.”

According to executive producer Kerry Ehrin, Norma will be doing everything in her power to make sure that Norman’s deadly secret remains a secret.

“All of Norma’s energy goes into stuffing away things she doesn’t want to look at,” Ehrin dished to TV Guide. “And Norman’s history of behavior -- his unusual tendencies, all the things that are sort of spelling out that he is a certain person -- she has been stuffing down. He now knows … it’s her worst nightmare.”

What will make matters worse for Norma is Sheriff Romero’s insistence for Norman to take a polygraph test. However it’s possible that if the truth comes out, Sheriff Romero won’t push the matter. Why not? Because the White Pine Bay sheriff may be in love with Norma.

“We feel like there’s definitely something there,” Ehrin said to Entertainment Weekly of a Norma and Romero connection. “It’s buried pretty deep at this point, but I mean, obviously Norma has gotten his attention.”

That doesn’t mean that Romero’s going to let a murder slide. As Kerry Ehrin told TV Guide, Romero is somewhat emotionally invested in the situation because of his fondness for Norma. However, he still wants to do the “right thing” and get the truth out.

“But there’s this little bit of a roadblock that gets tossed into it,” Ehrin explained of a season finale twist.

So, what will happen? Will Norman’s dissociative identity disorder even allow the polygraph test to pick up the truth? According to the executive producer, “Bates Motel” fans will have to wait and see how it “plays out.”

You can watch the Season 2 finale of “Bates Motel” when it airs on A&E on May 5 at 10 p.m. EDT. Stick around after episode 10 when the network airs its special, “Bates Motel: After Hours.”
