Bates Motel
Norman (Freddie Highmore) will suspect his mother of "horrible actions" in Season 4, episode 2 of "Bates Motel." A&E/ Bettina Strauss

“Bates Motel” Season 4 got off to a deadly start on Monday. The A&E “Psycho” prequel returned with a bang as Norma (Vera Farmiga) frantically tried to get Norman (Freddie Highmore) the mental help he so desperately needed. However, Norma made the mistake of leaving her son home alone … and an unexpected houseguest paid the price.

Episode 2, titled “Goodnight, Mother,” will find Norma and Norman facing off as they “suspect each other of horrible actions.” Fans will remember that the premiere concluded with Norman killing Emma’s (Olivia Cooke) mother by strangling her to death. But Norman wasn’t in the right frame of mind. Dressed in one of the robe’s belonging to Norma, he truly believed he was acting as “Mother.”

Elsewhere, Dylan (Max Thieriot) will be thinking about his future with Emma. He got to see Emma following her lung transplant operation, and managed to get a smile out of her when he called her beautiful. But will something about her condition make him have a change of heart? Or will he be afraid of telling Norman about the feelings he developed for his ex-girlfriend?

Finally, Sheriff Romero (Nestor Carbonell) will “make a choice that will have a big impact on the Bates family.” Does that mean that he’s going to accept Norma’s odd proposal? It’s clear that he has some sort of soft spot for the Bates matriarch; however, he turned her down when she asked him to marry her. Norma promised him that the marriage would just be on paper in order to get health insurance to admit Norman to Pineview Mental Institution.

“Bates Motel” fans will just have to tune in next week to find out what will happen next in White Pine Bay. Season 4, episode 2 will air on A&E at 9 p.m. EST on Monday, March 14.
