“Batman: Arkham Origins” was announced on Tuesday as Game Informer revealed its May cover will feature the new videogame. “Batman: Arkham Origins” will be released Oct. 25 and will be available for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U.

Fans of “Batman: Arkham Asylum” and “Batman: Arkham City” have plenty to celebrate following the announcement of “Batman: Arkham Origins.” Game Informer revealed its May cover, which served as an announcement for the game. “Batman: Arkham Origins” will serve as a prequel, taking place one year before the previous games. According to Game Informer, “Batman: Arkham Origins” will reveal that “young, unrefined Batman encounters many supervillains for the first time.”

Rocksteady Games developed “Batman: Arkham Asylum” and “Batman: Arkham City” with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment released the games, but “Batman: Arkham Origins” will be developed in-house by Warner Bros. Games Montreal.

The new studio will not have to start from scratch in making “Batman: Arkham Origins” as WB Games Montreal will have access to the customized Unreal engine used by Rocksteady Games for the previous “Batman” videogames. That means “Batman: Arkham Origins” will share a continuity with its predecessors in terms of control and appearance, although WB Games Montreal could have made adjustments in terms of design and gameplay.

In addition to announcing “Batman: Arkham Origins” and the first details of it, Game Informer also revealed that Deathstroke, an assassin and popular villain, will appear in the game.

The trailer released by Game Informer gives a glimpse of what to expect from “Batman: Arkham Origins.” The game will not go into the origins of the Batman character or Arkham Asylum, instead it serves as a way to introduce new characters that are important to the superhero. “Batman: Arkham Asylum” will take place in Gotham City and involves eight assassins gathering in the city to take down Batman.
