Electronic Arts is not unveiling its all-new “Battlefield” game until this coming Wednesday, May 23, but the game’s World War II setting may have already been confirmed by its teaser trailer.

On Monday, Eurogamer pointed out how the teaser trailer that EA released for “Battlefield V” late last week seems to confirm the speculations that the next “Battlefield” installment could be a period game just like “Battlefield 1.”

The video game news site stated that there’s a bit of a clue on the setting of the upcoming game in the trailer. The clue is found on the HUD at the top of the screen when a man shows up in the video clip and looks straight into the camera.

The HUD apparently features two icons that appear to be stylized representations of the British Union Jack and the German Balkenkreuz. Based on history, the second symbol was used by the German army, airforce and navy from 1935 until the end of WW2.

Eurogamer’s Matt Wales also noted how the gentleman’s pair of googles scream WW2. Guru3D reiterated the same sentiment when it pointed out that the old style pilot glasses of the character could be from the Second World War.

However, it’s important to point out that the official “Battlefield V” Twitter account stated that the game is going to have a “New Setting.” A tweet posted over the weekend even mentioned that the game will offer a “brand-new experience and still everything you love about Battlefield — where every fight is different and brought to life across unexpected theaters of war.”

Ever since it was revealed that a new “Battlefield” is in the works, there have been disparate speculations regarding the new game’s setting. On one hand, some believe that it is going to be set in the modern world because it is going to be the direct follow-up to “Battlefield 4.” On the other, there are people who believe that the game will be set in WW2 because it is the successor to 2016’s “Battlefield 1,” which is set in WW1.

It won’t take long until fans get the confirmation they’ve been waiting for though. EA is hosting the “‘Battlefield V’ Live Reveal” event this Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET or 1 p.m. PT. The event will be streamed online via YouTube, Twitch, Mixer.com and Battlefield.com.
