It was an evening to forget for Manchester City after losing 2-0 at Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League - a defeat which was compounded by controversy surrounding Carlos Tevez's future at the club.

City were impressive and could have gone ahead in the first half hour. David Silva and Micah Richards were unlucky in their penalty appeals, as City looked to grab the opener. However, Bayern coped and perhaps deservedly went ahead when Mario Gomez scored on the 38 minutes. Franck Ribery played a key role in the goal, cutting in from the right after causing mayhem down that flank before lashing a drive at Joe Hart. Hart parried the effort and then saved again brilliantly after Thomas Muller got to the rebound. However, he couldn't deny Gomez - the definition of goal poacher - who was at hand to tap it in.

The second goal came in similar fashion at the stroke of half time. Daniel van Buyten flicked-on Toni Kroos' cross which caused chaos in the City defence. Hart managed to make a save but yet again Gomez was at hand to send it in.

City never had any real zest going forward in the second half. City's problems were compounded by the refusal of Carlos Tevez - an instrumental figure at the club last season - to come on as a second half substitute. Another key moment was when manager Roberto Mancini bizarrely decided to bring on Nigel de Jong for the impressive Edin Dzeko - a decision that clearly had the former Wolfsburg forward frustrated and annoyed.
