Wednesday, a report from Statistics Belgium showed that consumer prices rose 0.6% year-on-year in April, slowing from a 0.62% rise in March.

In July 2008, the inflation rate stood at 5.91%, the highest level in 24 years. The sharp drop in the consumer price inflation in April since then was mainly due to sharp decreases in price of products relating to energy. At first, prices of heating oil, gasoline and diesel declined, followed by a drop in prices of electricity and gas from February 2009.

Meanwhile, consumer prices rose 0.21% in April from March.
