BRUSSELS, Dec 11 - Mobistar (MSTAR.BR), Belgium's second-biggest mobile phone operator, has no current plans for a merger, its chief executive reportedly told De Tijd newspaper.

According to a marketing email sent out on Friday by the paper, Benoit Scheen is quoted in an article to be published in Saturday's edition saying the company does not have merger plans for the time being.

In September Mobistar and Belgian peer Telenet (TNET.BR) saw their shares rise after Mobistar's majority owner France Telecom (FTE.PA) said consolidation could make sense in Belgium. [ID:nLP440125]

At the time a spokesman for France Telecom said the company had no intention of modifying its holding in Mobistar.

Mobistar was not immediately available for comment. (Reporting by Ben Deighton; Editing by David Holmes)
