U.S. stocks edged up in mid-day trade Wednesday, as Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said the tapering of bond purchases was not on a “preset course” during his semi-annual testimony before Congress.

As of 1:45 p.m. Eastern, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 2.65 points, or 0.02 percent, at 15,454.50. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index added 4.84 points, or 0.29 percent, at 1,681.10, and the Nasdaq Composite Index rose 9.22 points, or 0.26 percent, at 3,607.72.
