“We need to do all we can to protect the most vulnerable people in our country from Donald Trump’s administration,” Jackson wrote in her statement. In what is sure to highlight Sanders' messages in the “Our Revolution” campaign, the statement urged viewers to “find out how best to continue our political revolution.”
Sanders was also named chair of outreach for Senate Democrats as well as a ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee, according to a separate news release Wednesday.
“Serving as a ranking member of the Budget Committee is a heavy responsibility,” Sanders said in a statement. “It helps shape the priorities of the United States government and I am going to do everything I can to make sure the budget that leaves the United States Congress is a budget that represents the needs of working families and a shrinking middle class, not billionaires.”
Following the presidential election, Sanders has been actively been encouraging supporters to take more action in campaigning for policies and becoming more involved in the political process. He used a recent op-ed piece in the New York Times to speak of his hopes for the Democratic Party and the challenges it faces following the election of Trump.
Sanders has led by example by actively campaigning on behalf of working families and environmental initiatives. He made a surprise appearance outside of the White House Tuesday evening to speak on behalf of the Dakota Access pipeline on a global day of action that saw demonstrators turn out to protest the pipeline’s construction in hundreds of cities.
