For a lot of Americans, their jobs define some eight hours of their lives, five days per week, every week — so being in the right position matters. With that in mind, mobile app developers should be ecstatic. CNN Money released its 2017 job rankings on Wednesday and mobile app developers came out on top.

The rankings were determined in conjunction with experts at PayScale, a compensation data and software firm, and took into account factors such as job satisfaction, quality of life, median pay and estimated job growth.

Mobile app developers certainly get paid well and have room for growth. Top pay was $133,000 per year, while the median pay was $97,000 per year with an estimated 19 percent growth over a ten-year period, according to CNN Money. For context, the most recent Census data found the median estimated household income was $56,516. As far as letter grades go, mobile app developer got an A for "personal satisfaction," a C for "benefit to society," an A for "telecommuting" and an A for "low stress."

Most of us use apps every day, which "means growing demand for developers who build and update apps so they're secure, user-friendly, and sought after," wrote CNN Money.

After mobile web app developer, the top ten was filled out, in order of ranking, by risk management director, landman, product analyst, information assurance analyst, quality assurance coordinator (RN), clinical applications specialist, hospital administrator, database analyst and finance and administration director. The list stopped at 100, which went to anesthesiologists, a job with a median pay of $335,000.

Other jobs rankings have had different results. U.S. News & World Report put out its annual ranking last year and had its top five, in order, as orthodontist, dentist, computer systems analyst, nurse anesthetist and physician assistance. Jobs site Career Cast, meanwhile, had its top five, in order, as data scientist, statistician, information security analyst, audiologist and diagnostic medical sonographer.
