American singer and actress, Patti LaBelle was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award on Sunday at the annual 2011 BET Awards.

The legendary singer, known for her hit numbers like Lady Marmalade and Dan Swit Me, received her award from Gladys Knight.

I plan to hold myself up higher because I've gotten this wonderful award, the Washington Post quoted the 67-year-old singer stating at the award ceremony. Following this, the iconic singer even took the stage to perform some of her hits.

A number of other stars who were present at the Sunday event like Beyonce and Mary J. Blige also paid tribute to the star.

Established in the year 2001, the BET Awards celebrate the works of African Americans and other minorities in fields like music, acting and sports over the past year.
