Vice President Joe Biden spoke at the 21st annual National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner Thursday, where he pledged that the Obama administration would do all it could to fund their efforts.

Biden told those in attendance that the administration could make the jobs fire and emergency crews perform a hell of a lot safer if we do what we have to do.

He added, We've already increased funding for stations and equipment, better training, more protective clothing, including $210 million in the Recovery Act.

Still, Biden said the $210 million was not enough and that the administration is committed to reauthorizing and increasing funding for SAFER, which will directly to fire departments.

We will give you the manpower and the equipment you need to protect your brothers and sisters in arms, and to protect your neighborhoods, our neighborhoods from the fierce dangers you battle every single day, Biden added.

He said it's time we set in motion and begin to repay the immeasurable debt that not only I owe you, but the entire nation owes you.
