‘Big Bang Theory’

Big Bang Theory” was recently named the highest-rated comedy show on television for 2016 to 2017.

According to TV Line, the sitcom starring Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kunal Nayyar, Simon Helberg, Kaley Cuoco, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch, garnered a 4.9 rating. But even though “Big Bang Theory” was ranked as the first in the comedy category for the past season, the sitcom only ranked third overall after NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” and “Thursday Night Football.” Additionally, the ratings for “Big Bang Theory” dropped by 16 percent compared to the previous year. Lagging closely behind “Big Bang Theory” is ABC’s “Modern Family” with a 2.9 demo rating.

In the drama department, NBC’s new TV drama, “This Is Us,” ranked first followed by FOX’s “Empire.” The Terrence Howard-starrer received a 3.9 rating, which is 40 percent lower than its rating for 2015 to 2016. ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” was ranked third with a 3.3 rating. This figure is also down by eight percent compared to the previous season.

Meanwhile, the top 20 TV shows for 2016 and 2017 came only from four television networks, namely, ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX. ABC and CBS led the pack with six shows each, followed by NBC with five TV shows and FOX with four TV shows.

“NCIS” was dubbed as the season’s most watched drama with its 18.3 million viewers. “Big Bang Theory” was hailed the season’s most watched comedy show with a total of 19 million viewers. Other comedy shows that made the top 5 list include “Black-ish,” “The Simpsons” and “The Goldbergs.”

New comedy shows that made it on the top 5 list include “Kevin Can Wait,” “Speechless,” “American Housewife,” “The Good Place” and “The Great Indoors.” The top returning drama shows for 2016 to 2017 were “Empire,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “How to Get Away With Murder,” “NCIS” and “Criminal Minds.” Top new drama shows for the same season were “This Is Us,” “Designated Survivor,” “Bull,” “Lethal Weapon” and “Timeless.”

In other news, the final rankings for reality TV shows have also been cast. At the top is ABC’s “The Bachelor,” followed by “The Voice,” “Survivor,” “Dancing With the Stars” and “Hunted.”
