There is a new uptown girl in Billy Joel's life. The 66-year-old musician and his wife, Alexis, 33, welcomed a new daughter just over a month after tying the knot on Independence Day.

According to USA Today, Della Rose Joel was born early Wednesday morning. A statement announced that Della Rose "officially entered the world on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 2:40 a.m. weighing in at 7 lbs, 6.5 oz." Billy and Alexis Joel have not revealed the meaning behind the baby's name.

One month ago, Billy Joel and a pregnant Alexis Roderick were married in a surprise ceremony on July 4 at Joel's estate in Long Island, New York. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo was among the small circle of friends and family present at the intimate ceremony.

When interviewed by Newsday in July after the wedding, Joel spoke about the then-upcoming birth of Della Rose.

"I'm probably going to be able to spend more time with this kid than most people are able to spend with their children," Joel said, "because I don't have a regular job. I could be a stay-at-home dad for as long as I can stay alive."

He added that he hoped to be a more present father to Della Rose than he was to his daughter Alexa Ray Joel, 29.

"I would like to have been around more because I was on the road for years and years when she was a little girl," Joel said. "And after Christie [Brinkley] and I split up, [Alexa] was in Colorado, so I missed out on some of her childhood, which I would like to have been there for. But now I have a chance to do it better."

Joel is currently performing one show a month, indefinitely, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The relaxed residency should give him the free time to make good on those fatherly promises.
