Osama bin Laden was plotting to kill US President Barack Obama as part of a plan to disrupt the 2012 American presidential elections, according to some intelligence data found in the former al-Qaeda chief’s Pakistani compound.

ABC News reported that US investigators combing through the treasure trove of materials – estimated at 1-million data pages -- discovered that bin Laden urged his followers to murder Obama.

However, no further details of the murder plot were revealed.

I would say this is probably very personal on bin Laden's part, to kill [Obama] that he believes has violated the Muslim faith, former FBI profiler Brad Garrett told ABC News.

He is incensed, inflamed, obsessed about killing the president.

Bin Laden also wanted to murder other senior US officials.

Reportedly, videos of bin Laden demonstrated that while he watched television and an image of Obama would come on the screen, he would switch the channel.

The news follows reports that an al-Qaeda group in Somalia has threatened to kill Obama’s 89-year-old step-grandmother who lives in Kenya. Sarah Obama is now under 24-hour-a-day security.

Regarding the death threats, Barack Obama told reporters: There is no doubt that when it comes to the American people, that after having killed bin Laden there may be a desire on some al Qaeda members to exact revenge and that's something that we

have to be vigilant about and we're monitoring all these situations.
