It looks like Jefferson’s desire to go back to his former life as vigilante blows his chance at getting back together with his ex-wife Lynn.

According to the synopsis for Season 1, episode 3 of CW’s “Black Lightning,” Jefferson (Cress Williams) and Lynn (Christine Adams) try and figure out their new dynamic as he considers returning to the streets as Black Lightning.

At the end of last episode, Jefferson told Lynn that Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer’s (China Anne McClain) kidnapper, Lala (William Catlett), has been arrested. “It’s over. The girls are safe, and the Seahorse has been shut down,” Jefferson said. But when Lynn asked if he’s also done with Black Lightning, Jefferson didn’t give a definite answer. “Look, things are different now. The girls are older. Maybe we can find a way to live with it,” said Jefferson, who is clearly asking her to let him go back to his vigilante life. But Lynn didn’t utter a single word, suggesting that she remains unsupportive of his yearning to protect Freeland as Black Lightning.

As Jefferson tries to determine if the community can survive without the help of Black Lightning, Anissa starts to come into her own. After knocking a hold-upper to the ground at the end of last episode, it seems that Anissa realizes that she has powers. As seen in the promo photos for the next episode, the part-time teacher appears to be exploring her newfound abilities in a junk yard.

Also in next week’s installment, Jennifer reveals to her parents that she has been grappling with something big.

The episode also marks the debut appearance of Jill Scott as Lady Eve. In the trailer for the hour, Tobias Whale (Marvin “Krondon” Jones III) is seen meeting up with Lady Eve.

As previously reported, Lady Eve is a consummate professional who serves as a bridge between Tobias and a secret group of corrupt leaders in Freeland. Though she presents herself as the owner of a funeral parlor, she quickly becomes an adversary to Black Lightning.

“Black Lightning” Season 1, episode 3, titled “Lawanda: The Book of Burial,” airs on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 9 p.m. EST on The CW. Watch the trailer below:
