Research in Motion Ltd. (NASDAQ: RIMM), maker of the Blackberry handheld email device, settled a lawsuit between itself and South Korean electronics maker Samsung this week.

RIM said Wednesday that the settlement included provisions for the protection of RIM's valuable trademarks. Specific terms of the deal were not released.

The suit had alleged that Samsung's BlackJack smartphone misled customers, as it was similar in design to its own Blackberry Pearl device.

RIM said the settlement provided reasonable measures to avoid confusion in the market place.

The suit was filed in December in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
