Blacklist
Red (James Spader) said goodbye to Naomi (Mary-Louise Parker) in episode 4 of "The Blacklist" Season 2. NBC

In episode 3 of NBC’s “The Blacklist,” Red (James Spader) and Liz (Megan Boone) took down a corrupt doctor in the middle of Red’s continuing struggle with Berlin (Peter Stormare). In episode 4, “Dr. Linus Creel,” Red and Liz set their sets on another doctor. But this doctor was a little different.

In the new episode, Red alerted Liz to a scary trend of people with no criminal background committing deadly acts of violence in the Washington area. Red believed someone was using social psychology to coax the people into committing the crimes.

Liz went to Cooper (Harry Lenix), who confirmed that he had heard of a government program that performed such experiments. Red then took Liz to see a conspiracy theorist who provided redacted government documents that led Liz to a list of the killers and a common doctor among them named Linus Creel (David Costabile). Another thing the patients had a gene in common called the warrior gene that made them prone to violent behavior.

Liz had to go undercover as a new patient of Dr. Creel to get access to his files. After a tense scene in which Liz seemed to be pulling from the very real tragedies of her own life (she continues to act very paranoid), she was able to steal the password to his computer and hack into his files.

With the files Liz was able to track down Creel’s next victim at a government hearing where Creel hoped to provoke the patient into killing him in order to bring attention to his research on the warrior gene. After Liz stopped him, Creel took her hostage at gunpoint, but a mysterious sniper (that Liz knew Red was responsible for) took Creel out. Creel, though, died before he could reveal something he found in Liz’s genetic testing. Was Red silencing him?

Speaking of Red, he spent the entire episode convincing his ex-wife Naomi (Mary-Louise Parker) and her husband Frank (Lee Tergesen) that they should his accept his offer to set them up with new identities to hide from Berlin. After threatening Frank with harming his mistress, Frank agrees to stay faithful to Naomi and relocate with Red’s new identities.

However, before they left, Liz tracked down Naomi to ask her about the past. Naomi lied to her and told her she knew nothing, but that was revealed to be a lie in a later conversation with Red. She did, though, tell Liz that Red is not the man he appears to be. What secret is she hiding?
