The Blacklist
The Cabal plans to assassinate Liz (Megan Boone, pictured) in episode 9 of "The Blacklist" Season 3. NBC

Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) put Liz (Megan Boone) in handcuffs at the end of the Season 3 winter finale of "The Blacklist." Now what? Well, the synopsis for the midseason premiere, "The Director," reveals that despite Ressler's promise to keep Liz safe for a fair trial, the former FBI agent has never been in more danger.

According to the synopsis for episode 9, Red (James Spader) will have to go to extreme lengths to protect Liz while she is in FBI custody. He has a plan to get back that secret, all important case he lost when the FBI showed up to arrest Liz in the winter finale.

Ressler, on the other hand, is determined to get Liz to trial, but with her location now public knowledge, the Cabal has other plans. The corrupt FBI Director (David Strathairn) wants to kill Liz before she has the chance to explain herself.

The promo for the episode reveals that on a special directive from the White House, Liz is being ushered to a special, closed trial where the Cabal will not be able to manipulate her hearing. That does not sit well with the director, but the teaser video reveals he is confident the Cabal can pull off Liz's assassination in the three hours it will take to transport her to the courtroom.

"Three hours to make one woman disappear? We have toppled entire governments in less time."

It appears Ressler will have to go from arresting Liz to protecting her life.
