What will happen to Tom (Ryan Eggold) and Liz (Megan Boone) in the midseason finale of "The Blacklist" Season 4? NBC

“The Blacklist” Season 4 will answer a lot of questions in its midseason finale on Thursday, including whether or not Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen) is really Elizabeth Keen’s (Megan Boone) father.

In “The Blacklist” Season 4, episode 7, test results showed that Liz isn’t related to Kirk, but the latter did not want to believe it. Kirk suspected that Red (James Spader) may have altered the samples so that Liz would not be able to save him, therefore letting the truth about her past be buried along with him. However, after she called him to ask whether he had tampered with the test, Red told Liz to get away from Kirk immediately when he realized the latter now knew she wasn’t his daughter. Liz was only safe from Kirk because he believed she was his child and that she could save him, but without this safety net, she could be in grave danger.

There are still many questions that remain unanswered even after seven episodes, but “The Blacklist” executive producer John Eisendrath told Entertainment Weekly that Liz will “get answers to the questions she’s been asking since the beginning of the show.” Meanwhile, according to EP John Eisendrath, Red “has a plan, and I’m pretty sure it’s one nobody would expect.”

When asked what’s in store for the characters in the midseason finale, Eisendrath said that Red's devotion to Liz will be the focal point of the episode. “The tease for the next episode is the culmination of Alexander Kirk in Liz and Red’s life and the lengths to which Reddington will go to save Liz from Alexander Kirk, whose life dream is falling apart in front of him,” he dished. “The biggest tease is Red is going to need a miracle from preventing Alexander Kirk from either taking his or Liz’s life, and one will be left to wonder what miracle Red has that he can pull out of his hat to save their lives if he is able to do it.”

As for the results of the DNA test, Eisendrath said that it’s possible Red had tampered with it in order to “get Alexander Kirk out of Liz’s life,” even if this involves “making him believe that he is not her father, or making Liz believe that Kirk is in fact not her father, he might do that.”

One character that fans are eager to get updates on is Mr. Kaplan (Susan Blommaert), who was nearly killed by Red earlier in the season. Bokenkamp revealed that her arc will be “its own little short film,” so it’s likely she won’t get involved with Red and Liz’s issues yet. “It’s its own story that’s happening off somewhere in the woods and is sort of disconnected from Red and Liz and Kirk and everything that has been happening. So that story, again on its own, will come to a conclusion between Kaplan and this strange man played by Leon Rippy, who I think is great, that will come to a head and she’s going to be confronted with a big decision,” he told the publication.

Meanwhile, the promo and synopsis for “The Blacklist” Season 4 midseason finale teased that Kirk will capture Liz, forcing Red to offer up his own life for hers. Furious after discovering that Liz might not be his daughter and therefore won’t be able to save his life, Kirk asks Red if he is Liz’s real father.

“Red (James Spader) pressures Dr. Shaw to locate a former patient. Liz (Megan Boone) contemplates the implications of her ties to an increasingly desperate and dangerous Alexander Kirk,” read the synopsis for “The Blacklist” Season 4, episode 8, according to CarterMatt.
