Conditions of cerebral palsy

comments 0

Cerebral palsy, a form of brain damage at or before birth, can leave sufferers with severe problems with movement, sight, speech, hearing and breathing.

Children with the mild form of the condition have a good chance of living into adulthood but those with sever forms are less likely to live beyond their teens.

In the case of Ivan Cameron, the 6-year-old son of British opposition leader David Cameron, the problems were exacerbated by Ohtahara syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that causes seizures that progressively worsen as the sufferer ages, that lead to his death.

People with cerebral palsy often have difficulty controlling their facial expressions.

There is no cure for cerebral palsy, but many treatments can help alleviate symptoms.
