Latham & Watkins LLP is suffering massive layoffs that struck the law firm offices in Los Angeles and New York.
The total layoff numbers are at 440 employees with 190 associates and 250 staff being nationally. It would reportedly mark the nation's biggest law firm layoff for 2009.
The company offered severance packages of six months pay, capped at $100,000 and six months medical coverage.
"This was completely designed to address the over-capacity on a long-term basis," firm chairman Robert Dell said.
