Apple to name Tablet "iSlate" or "Magic Slate"?
The latest rumor surrounded the highly-anticipated yet unconfirmed Apple Tablet, is that it may be considering two new names: "iSlate" and "Magic Slate."
According to MacRumors, Apple purchased the domain for "islate.com" back in 2007.
MacRumors reports: After we broke the news yesterday that Apple had acquired iSlate.com, other pieces to the puzzle seemed to fall into place. Notably, TechCrunch found that iSlate had been registered as a trademark by an unknown Delaware company by the name of Slate Computing, LLC in November 2006. iSlate had also been registered as a trademark in Europe using a law firm that Apple employs. The implication being that Apple set up Slate Computing, LLC as a dummy corporation to secretly acquire the iSlate trademark. Apple has been known to do this in the past. For example, the iPhone trademark was originally filed by Ocean Telecom Services, another anonymous Delaware-based company.
Maybe we'll find out just what that means in January 26, when the tablet is rumored to be announced.
Analysts appear to agree with the prediction. Piper Analyst Gene Munster said in a research note on Wednesday that there is a 75 percent chance the company will make a January announcement. Munster also added that he sees a 50-50 chance of the rumored Apple Tablet to be unveiled at this January event.
