Chris Brown could be sent to jail if Rihanna's injuries proven to be serious

Chris Brown's case for allegedly assaulting R&B singer Rihanna is still on LAPD's investigation table and it is waited to be presented to the District Attorney, who will ultimately determine which type of charges will be prosecuted.

Even if Brown, 19, was arrested for making criminal threats-a felony, experts say it doesn't necessarily mean automatic jail terms, because misdemeanor charges are overwhelmingly filed in such cases as domestic violence.

The chances Chris Brown might have in avoiding imprisonment are mostly depending on how badly the victim was hurt. "After examining police photos, medical records or reviewing victim statements, the injuries usually speak for themselves," says L.A. criminal defense attorney Jeffery Rubenstein, who is not involved in the Brown case. "Either they rise to a felony level or they don't."
