Report: IBM layoffs 2010
Computer giant IBM is engaged in a new round of job cuts at its Rochester complex Monday, which is expected to affect all of its North American operations.
The cuts are expected to come as part of what IBM refers to as an "RA," or "resource action," said Lee Conrad, national coordinator for the Alliance@IBM, a group pushing to unionize IBM employees.
The "resource action" process has in the past has described the periodic layoffs and forced retirements as part of its global business model.
According to WRAL.com, the Website for a TV station in the Raleigh, N.C., area, the majority of the expected job cuts are expected to come from IBM's Research Triangle Park, N.C., facilities.
The IBM units reportedly involved in this latest "resource action" are the Systems & Technology Group (STG), the Software Group (SWG), ISC, GTS and GBS units, a report by KTCC noted.
