Microsoft clears up Zune rumor on Twitter

Microsoft had to do some PR work on Tuesday after false rumors appeared on Twitter that hinted at the possibility of a Zune phone coming out as soon as June.

The posts from @officethemovie were typically cryptic, saying simply that 'June 2009 will be an important month for Zune lovers', followed by 'New product launch, that's all I'm allowed to say. Hold off from buying an iPhone/Pre. :)'.

Spokesperson Brian Seitz, a source of many Zune-related rumors himself, has stated that the account isn't official and should not be taken seriously:

That account is bunk. Not run by Microsoft so I would not put much stock in what they say. The real Office movie account is http://twitter.com/office2010movie.

The person who created the fake Twitter account later confessed and said it was a publicity stunt for his article on iPhone piracy.
