Novavax, Inc. (NASDAQ: NVAX) announced its initial agreement to license its proprietary, recombinant virus-like-particle (VLP) vaccine technology to ROVI Pharmaceuticals who will use the technology to create a comprehensive influenza vaccine solution. The vaccine is being developed for the Spanish government under a new 60 million-euro program sponsored and led by the Spanish Ministry of Health and other government groups to develop pandemic and seasonal flu vaccines and establish its only in-border facility. The stock closed at $3.28, up 31.20%, on 32,977,342 traded shares.

Vical, Inc. (NASDAQ: VICL) announced today that its vaccine against swine flu produced robust immune responses exceeding the accepted protection threshold in 100% of vaccinated mice and rabbits after a standard two-dose vaccine treatment. The company said it is ready to advance directly to large-scale cGMP manufacturing of the vaccine for human clinical trials, subject to securing external funding for this program. The stock closed at $2.70, up 22.73%, on 8,060,659 traded shares.

Geron Corp. (NASDAQ: GERN) and GE Healthcare, a unit of General Electric Company (NYSE:GE), announced that they have entered into a global exclusive license and alliance agreement to develop and commercialize cellular assay products derived from human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) for use in drug discovery, development and toxicity screening. The program will use stem cells derived from hESC lines listed on the NIH Human Pluripotent Stem Cell Registry. The stock closed at $7.67, up 14.65%, on 19,988,654 traded shares.
