In Russia in the Sakha Republic along a river lies a village home to 800 people. The village holds a spine-chilling record -96 Fahrenheit temperature recorded in 1926 and has its place firmly frozen to the Guinness book of records. The Village, Oymyakon, is located near a hot spring and the name given in the local Sakha language holds the meaning of “non-freezing water”. Oymyakon is located in a valley surrounded by two high mountains that trap cold winter air and stop warmer air getting in. This is what causes the big chill. http://ecoworldly.com/2008/12/14/the-coldest-inhabited-places-on-earth/
