James Buchanan Ranked Worst President
C-Span released a survey Monday that ranks all the U.S. presidents in history based on merit/leadership. It released its second survey to date with its first ranking in 2000. James Buchanan was ranked worst this year, replacing Andrew Johnson as the worst president in the 2000 ranking.
Republican Abraham Lincoln was ranked as the best president in both surveys, for his role in ending slavery. In contrast, James Buchanan was in disfavor for his ineptitude from 1856 to 1860 and blamed for leading to the Civil War.
George W. Bush came in at number 36, the worst showing for a two-term President. It remains to be seen where Barack Obama will rank in the 2018 ranking.
