Festive Dash

Available on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad

Frosty the Snowman likes to jump. So do elves... the Santa kind, not the Lord of the Rings kind. And apparently penguins like to jump, too! So here they are in Festive Dash, all jumping together as they slide through a little obstacle course. Your job is to make them all jump at the appropriate times to avoid the rocks, bushes, and hurdles that get in their way.

TextCrafter

Available on iPhone & iPod Touch

We all know at least one person (if not ourselves) who loves posting updates to their Twitter and Facebook accounts. How would you feel if you could do this at each time Via one application? Well, today I bring to you TextCrafter. It's kind of a 3-in-1 type of deal. It has the same idea that the basic "Notes" app does, but has many more features. The features included in this app are sharing your text to FaceBook and Twitter as I already mentioned, e-mail, or send it to someone through iMessage, changing font size, hundreds of special characters, and adding your location.

Perfect Pitch Piano

Available on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad

I can't sing, I can't dance, and I definitely can't play piano! My mom never made me take lessons. I think she was afraid the piano teacher would wind up choking the shit out of me which would have been a valid concern given my complete lack of musical talent. But for some reason I've always wanted to at least try the piano, and Perfect Pitch Piano is that chance.

This app seems like it was made for complete beginners like me, and it takes kind of a tough love approach to trying to force you to listen to the keys before caving in and actually showing them to you. And, like the piano teacher I never had, it also freaks out occasionally.

GoodReader for iPhone

Available on iPhone and iPad

I was so much more productive at work when I had my Blackberry Bold 9700.Unfortunately, my Blackberry meet its demise the day that I accidentally dropped it in the toilet. After much badgering from my friends, wife and co-workers, I decided to take the plunge and officially joined the Steve Jobs/Apple cult by purchasing an iPhone 4. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my iPhone! Otherwise, I wouldn't be volunteering my free time to write pro bono reviews. The thing is, I like the damn thing too much! The app store is a gamers paradise with thousands of games being introduced every week and probably half of them are free. Throw in a retina display and a plenty powerful Apple A4 chip running the thing and you have a well-qualified gaming device. Gaming on my blackberry, on the other hand, was a joke: think black-and-white Pong and you aren't too far off.

So, despite the fact that my law firm bought me the iPhone, I have rarely used it in any capacity other than playing games and the occasional phone call or email. Then enter GoodReader! This app has honestly transformed my iPhone into what I am sure my employer wanted it to be. So what is GoodReader? Well, I am glad you asked.

The Sims Medieval

Available on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad

I've wasted a shocking amount of time playing The Sims 3 on my iPhone which is weird because, after a while, that game got really repetitive and annoying! Yet I still played. I dunno what it is about The Sims that makes it so addictive, but it just is. Or maybe it's just addictive to losers like me who have no friends? Wait, that actually makes a lot of sense...

The Sims Medieval is just as shiny and addictive as its predecessor, and thankfully EA has done away with some of the things from Sims 3 that I hated most, specifically their tedius little "mini games" such as cooking food and fixing appliances. This Medieval version, which was released a couple months ago, introduces a bunch of new elements in a Middle Earth-ish setting... most notably, sword fights! It's actually not as exciting as it sounds, but it's definitely a departure from running around and slapping people in the face.

PEST FEST

I hate mosquitoes.I really do hate them a lot. They are nasty and carry diseases like malaria .Did you know that more soldiers were killed by...Okay I'm getting off point. This game is a lot of fun and the graphics are fantastic.

The idea is simple: KILL KILL KILL those mosquitoes before they either drain your significant other of all their blood or you accidentally wake up your sleeping partner by hitting them. There are different types of mosquitoes in the game, just like there are in real life.An old one, a fast one, a crazy one and a super strong one. Each with their own physics. There are also moths that enter the killing zone that, if killed, take away points.I don't really like moths either, but you can't kill them if you're trying for a top score. You get more points for combos and speed kills so wait till the pests cross paths.

Made in the form of a side-scrolling runner, Don't run with a plasmasword is a delightto play and watch. Boss fights, a levelling up system, perks, easy-to-use controls and an interesting backdrop make this title an addictive app. In the same category as 'Jetpack Joyride' and 'Monster Dash', 'Don't run' treats users toa story mode and endless mode, both of whichare enjoyable ways to play the game.

Slideshow+

comments 0

Available on iPhone & iPod Touch

There's probably a billion slideshow apps in the App Store, but this is the first one I've ever tried. With that said... this one's pretty good! From the first time I opened the app I probably could have made the video below in about five minutes if I hadn't been screwing around and tinkering with all the tools it offers for fancying up photo slideshows.

Slideshow+ lets you import photos from your camera roll, Facebook, Flickr, or Picasa and you can add tunes from the Music app (formerly known as the iPod). It's super easy to get things started and slap together a quick video, but doing things like moving photos around and adding title slides is more difficult.
