Disney's Iger cites "Iron Man" success in Marvel acquistion

comments 0

Disney CEO Bob Iger on Monday cited Marvel’s ability to market Iron Man as one of the reasons to acquire the company, noting that there was the ability to continue to do this with additional characters in the Marvel universe.

In a conference call today after announcing the acquisition of Marvel Entertainment in a $4 billion deal, he also compared the deal to Pixar’s acquisition three years ago, noting it was a way of expanding content to increase shareholder value.

In response to a question, Iger said Disney acquired Marvel because it was a good opportunity not because there was an "imperative" to acquire it.

"New Moon" on the cover of Entertainment Weekly

"New Moon," the second film in the Twilight series, is due out Nov. 20. The film promises even more swooning-opportunities for its fans. This week's double issue of Entertainment Weekly places Stewart and Lautner on the cover, while revealing secrets from the New Moon set inside.

New Moon, a far different beast than Twilight, is steeped in heartbreak, focusing on the recovery Bella (Stewart) undergoes after Edward (Pattinson) breaks her heart and her new feelings for her friend Jacob (Lautner). Pattinson couldn't be happier with his downsized role: "It was a stress-free job for three months," says the actor. "All the pressure was on Taylor."

For more on New Moon, see the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, on stands Aug 14.

Mischa Barton and Bruce Willis have a new movie coming out, called the "Assassination of a High School President", which based on the trailer, looks surprisingly good.

The movie, which took Sundance by storm, is headed to DVD on Oct. 6.

The film is a whip-smart satire about the politics of high school, revolving around stolen SATs. Mischa hasn't been this good since "The O.C.'s" first season.

`Transformers', Ice Age' tie for No. 1 at $42.5M during July 4th box office weekend

comments 0

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs reached the end of the July 4 weekend effectively tied for the three-day weekend box office crown, with both films taking in $42.5 million, according to early estimates by Hollywood.com Box Office.

Numbers reported during the weekend are estimates based on the studio's projections for how much business the movies will do on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Ice Age seized the No. 1 spot on the foreign circuit during the July 4 weekend as the third installment of the family-oriented series drew an estimated $148 million from 11,652 screens in 101 markets.

The opening-weekend tally set an overseas record for an animation film and was the sixth-biggest for any film. It also is the largest foreign introduction of a 3D title, said Paul Hanneman, co-president of Fox theatrical international.

The huge foreign opening more than doubled the $67.5 million No. 1 debut of the previous installment, 2006's Ice Age: The Meltdown.

Bruce Willis Bondage Shoot In W

Bruce Willis recently sat down with W magazine to talk about his marriage to 32-year-old model Emma Heming, and to shoot a bondage photo spread.

On marrying 32-year-old Emma Heming in March ‘09 after dating a string of models …”I went from ‘F— love’ to ‘Love is truly the answer. I spent the last 10 years single and, for the most part, unhappy. In a dark place. I never thought that being with someone else was the answer. I would say, ‘I’m alone, but I’m not lonely.’ But I was just kidding myself. Then I started hanging around Emma, and on a day-to-day basis my life became much happier.”

On how he, Emma, Demi, Ashton, and the kids (Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah) ALL GET ALONG…We’ve become like a tribe. It’s generated a lot of interest because everyone can understand resentment and envy in the breakup of a marriage, but they don’t understand how I can get along with my ex like that. Demi and I made a choice to put the kids first, and we’re really lucky that it turns out we all have fun together. I still love her, and I have a lot of respect for how she lives her life.”

On modeling with Emma for W’s photo shoot for the July issue…”Oh, it was awkward. We did stuff that I know a lot of other actors would not have done. Had I done it with another model I don’t know that I would have been as into it.”

The Hangover movie reviews and trailer

comments 1

"The Hangover", the latest from director Todd Phillip, explores the little-seen aftermath of such an event. A bachelor party so wild, so debaucherous, so legendary, that the male participants can't remember any of it. When they wake up with guess what… hangovers, their hotel room is trashed and the groom himself is missing.

Watch The Hangover move trailer below:

Here’s what the movie critics are saying -

Screen Daily -

“Proudly inappropriate and buoyed by both a clever script and some obvious chemistry between the film’s male leads… The Hangover is structured like a humourous mystery…it offers a tight storyline, resulting in a rare comedy with a potent dramatic engine. …while the ultimate outcome doesn’t live up to the setup’s potential, the journey is sufficiently rewarding.”

Hollywood Reporter -

“a piercingly funny, twisted ‘whatever-happens-in-Vegas’ caper that can’t be faulted for not taking full advantage of its R rating. …a surefire breakout turn by Zach Galifianakis, in the same way Will Ferrell busted out after his fearless turn in Old School.”

Variety -

“Ken Jeong makes the absolute most of his limited screen time as an effete antagonist whose mincing trash talk likely will be quoted extensively by the pic’s fans. …Cinematography does an excellent job of subtly enhancing the sense of danger lying just below the comic surface.”

Kristen Stewart Torn Between Two Lovers!

Kristen Stewart is reportedly “torn between” her Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson and her longtime boyfriend (they have been dating 5 years) Michael Angarano. Insiders claim the actress is beginning to fall for Pattinson.

“Robert and Kristen spent a lot of time alone together when they filmed the first Twilight movie — they’d stay up most of the night talking, laughing, playing music. Although [Robert] knew Kristen had a boyfriend, he made no secret of the fact that he was crazy about her,” says the source. “Kristen and Robert hit it off the minute they were introduced. When they auditioned together for the first time [back in 2007], sparks flew. The problem is, she’s torn between her onscreen and off-screen loves.”

Michael, for his part, has had enough of the scuttlebutt. “A lot of guys would not be as understanding as Michael has been,” says the friend. “But one thing Michael is not quite as understanding of is all the gossip about her and Pattinson.”

Stewart and Pattinson have insisted the rumors are not true and say they are “just friends.” The pair has been filming the Twilight sequel New Moon for the past several months.
