Microsoft in talks with Verizon on iPhone rival: Report

comments 0

Reports surfaced yesterday that said Verizon Wireless were holding talks with Apple about a deal to allow the carrier to sell a version of the iPhone. Today, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Verizon Wireless is holding talks with Microsoft on a deal to launch a touch-screen phone based on Microsoft’s secretive Project Pink.

The new phone is rumored to involve combining elements of Windows Mobile with some pieces acquired through the company’s Danger unit, which provides software for the T-Mobile Sidekick phone.

Citing “people familiar with the matter,” the WSJ says the new phone plans to build on the Windows Mobile operating system and use the new Windows Marketplace for Mobile application store.

The phone would be built by a third party, which you could quite possibly be the HTC, which already makes a bunch of Windows mobile-based touch screen phones.

Buy domain names via Tweetname on Twitter

comments 0

Great news for Twitter lovers; now you can also buy your domains via the micro-blogging site.

The former CEO of AdBrite, Philip Kaplan, founded Tweetname which makes it easier for clients to register available domain names.

It works by logging into Tweetname  and then the site uses OAuth to connect to your Twitter account. You fill out your credentials, including name, address, credit card info, billing information and then Tweetname will automatically start following you and arranges for you to follow Tweetname.

Once this has been set up, users can "tweet" a domain name to see if it's available by saying "Success!" or if its not, it will say "D'oh".

Domains cost $14.95 and can be registered under .com .net .org .us .name .biz .info.

Below is an instructional video that further explains how it works:

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is the company with the best customer service rankings in 2008, according to a survey.

Forrester Research’s 2008 customer experience index, a survey of some 4,500 consumers, ranked the PC makers slightly above companies in those other industries but below such perennial headaches as the wireless companies, airlines and credit card issuers.

Apple scored 80 percent, or “good” rating, in Forrester’s customer experience index. The result is an average of responses on topics like whether companies meet customer needs and make products that are easy and enjoyable to use.

Gateway scored a 66; Hewlett-Packard, a 64; and Compaq (a brand owned by H.P.), a 63. All these scores are considered “poor” rankings in the customer experience index by Forrester.

Dell got 58 percent, a “very poor” rating.

Video Games sales down in March

comments 0

Sales of video game have been consistently on the rise in spite of currently being in a recession, however March proved to be a rather tough month for the market.

The NPD Group reports that sales of video games in the US fell 17 percent in March to $792.8 million while hardware sales fell 18 percent, bringing in only $455.6 million.

NPD also attributed some of the decline to the fact that Easter fell in March last year, boosting purchases for gifts.

For the first quarter of 2009 as a whole, video game sales were flat at $4.25 billion.

Meanwhile, in the gaming console arena, the Wii reigned supreme in March with 601,000 units sold followed by the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 at 330,000 and 218,000 units respectively.

comments 0

YouTube is getting a makeover with some fresh and legal content from TV shows to movies after sealing several deals with Hollywood studios, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The Google-owned video site already streams a very select few TV shows, but the new content will allow the world's largest video site to compete with studio-run sites like Hulu, which features only premium content.

It's not apparent exactly which studios YouTube, has signed with.

On a blog post, YouTube only said that it was announcing a new destination for TV shows and an improved page for movies, without elaborating.

During a conference call, YouTube said that it would add two new tabs

"The 'Shows' tab allows you to browse shows by genre, network, title and popularity," YouTube said in a statement. "The 'Subscriptions' tab will grant logged-in users one-click access to fresh content from their favorite creators.
