Digg adds new changes to its social news toolbar
Digg has announced that it will change the way the DiggBar works, which should pacify a lot of Digg's critics.
Digg said in a company
blog post that the DiggBar will now only appear when users are logged in to
Digg, so that content providers will continue to receive full credit from
search engines, without Digg's iframe getting in the way.

The site plans to launch these changes over the coming week.
Despite the backlash the company has been receiving, Digg's vice president of engineering continues to push that the DiggBar's done good things for both Digg and the sites it's linking to.
In a company blog post on the upcoming changes, he said that "oughly 45% of all Digging activity is now happening on the Diggbar and over 25% of all DiggBar users are discovering new content they otherwise wouldn’t have by viewing related stories and content from the same source."

Nokia to roll out 3 'thin touchscreen phones' by fall

Nokia has finally announced it will enter the touchscreen movement.
The Finnish phone titan has plans to introduce three devices that feature big touchscreens and so-called Qwerty keypads, according to industry sources, say analysts according to The Street.
One of the new models to be rolled out over the next 12 months has a 4.2-inch touchscreen and a "hidden slide-out keyboard," and is considered to be mobile Internet device or tablet.
According to the analysts, three thin handsets will be rolled out this fall. The handsets will use Immersion’s VibeTonz technology, licensed by Nokia in 2007. It should improve touchscreen typing through direct feedback to the user’s fingertips.
And that’s not all. Next year, we may also see the so called first Nautilus phone – a very slim touchscreen handset with an ultrathin QWERTY keyboard, the keys of which would rise when it slides out.

YouTube and Universal Music roll out new music website: Vevo

Universal Music Group (UMG) and YouTube formally announced today Vevo, their expected music video web venture.
Specific details of how the site will work is still pretty sparse; it will be “ready later this year,” will include content other than music videos, and options to buy merchandise and concert tickets, the companies said.
Vevo is the first satellite web site for YouTube, and the move should be seen as a concession since it detracts from the value of YouTube as a portal and an interlinked community.
Google (GOOG) CEO Eric Schmidt reportedly said at a joint press conference with UMG he hopes to introduce additional YouTube satellite sites in the Vevo mold.
UMG chairman and CEO Doug Morris said his company now earns roughly $70 million per year on music video distribution, after having lost about that same amount on music video production for unpaid promotion in the past.
UMG is the most-viewed YouTube channel of all time, with 3.8 billion video views.

YouTube ad sales on videos are on the rise

YouTube is still Google's toughest sell to advertisers, but the video is selling ads against about 9% of its video views in the U.S., up from just 6% a year ago.
YouTube's director-product management said in an interview with Ad Age that the company is selling ads against "hundreds of millions of views" each month.
YouTube declined to comment on the exact rate at which it is selling ads and keeps the exact percentage a closely held secret.
A YouTube spokesman confirmed that the social site is placing ads on more videos than Fox Interactive Media, parent of MySpace and IGN Entertainment.
Fox Interactive ranks No. 2 by ComScore's measure, with 463 million views in February, or about 8.7% of YouTube's 5.3 billion views in the U.S.

A closer look at the new Nintendo DSi

Nintendo rolled out its new Nintendo DSi in Europe today and will be available in the U.S. on Sunday.
The third-generation version of the Nintendo DS console, the new DSi, has a new dual screen, is lighter at 7.5 oz and slightly slimmer than Nintendo DS Lite.
The third generation in the DS franchise was launched in Japan last November and has so far sold 2 million units. It will be $40 more expensive than the DS Lite making it $170 apiece.
Nintendo DSi will compete directly with Sony's PlayStation Portable 3000 as well as Apple iPod Touch on grounds of gaming platforms.
The DSi has two low resolution (0.3 megapixels) cameras, slightly larger screens (3.25 inches), and a SD card slot, although the Game Boy Advance slot has been removed from the updated version.
The DSi has an ARM processor running at 133MHz and a RAM beefed up to 16MB as compared to the DS Lite having a processor running at 67MHz and a 4MB RAM. DSi also has WiFi 802.11 option for connectivity.
Nintendo has also packed in a music player on DSi that allows the playing of AAC music files with support for .m4a, .mp4, and .3gp file format.
The Wii, Nintendo's console platform, has sold more than 50 million units worldwide since its release in 2006.
