Singer Etta James, 73 year-old, has been hospitalized for a urinary tract infection that led to sepsis early this week.

Sepsis is a severe illness in which the bloodstream is overwhelmed by bacteria.

Her son Sametto James said It was a really bad infection. Right now she's doing a lot better.

Etta James is a three-time Grammy winner with popular songs such as The Wallflower and Good Rockin' Daddy. She is best-known for her smash 1961 hit song At Last.

It's not the first time she has been hospitalized. Etta James was hospitalized in January 2010 to treat an infection caused by MRSA.

James has two sons, Donto and Sametto. Both started performing with their mother in 2003; Donto on drums and Sametto on bass guitar.
