Hurricane Arthur could have dampened the festivities on U.S. Independence Day in New York, but the storm jogged eastwardly on its way to New England, so the 38th annual Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular was a glittering show in the sky above and below the Brooklyn Bridge spanning the city’s East River.

Millions of people viewed the red, white and blue display of pyrotechnic wizardry in the country’s largest Fourth of July fireworks presentation in person, on television or via the Web. And many of them also watched performances by Ariana Grande, Enrique Iglesias and the Zac Brown Band during the nation’s birthday celebration. The event was televised by NBC.
