Bobbi Kristina Brown’s boyfriend, Nick Gordon, has remained silent since the daughter of late pop legend Whitney Houston died at Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, Georgia on Sunday night. But, his mother, Michele, issued a statement on behalf of her son.

“The passing of Bobbi Kristina is devastating to Nick and our family. Nick loved and cared for Krissi deeply, and he has suffered greatly each and every day they’ve been apart,” Michele wrote, according to Atlanta news station WSB-TV. “Nick and our family are in mourning, and we ask that you respect our privacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with both the Houstons and the Browns during this difficult time.”

Gordon, 25, was reportedly heartbroken to learn Bobbi Kristina died. “Nick is very upset," a source told People magazine. "You can say what you want about him and Bobbi Kristina, but he really did love her very much and is devastated that she is gone."

It was first considered an accident when she was found facedown in a bathtub in her Georgia home Jan. 31, but now police consider the investigation a homicide case, TMZ reported Monday. Nick is a person of interest, but he has not been charged with a crime.

Though he is not officially a suspect, Nick was slapped with a $10 million lawsuit June 24, which was filed on behalf of Bobbi Kristina by the Brown family's conservator, Bedelia Hargrove. He physically abused his girlfriend and stole $11,000 from her bank account while she was in a coma, the lawsuit claimed.

Before she died, Bobbi Kristina told her friend, Alex Reid, that Gordon abused her. "She was sobbing. Nick had hit her and she was scared," Reid told E! News on July 1. "She was very upset. She didn't know what to do.”

The funeral arrangements for Bobbi Kristina are currently unknown. It is rumored she will be buried in the same cemetery as her late mother, or be sharing a burial plot with her.
