Boeing Releases Statement On Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 Crash: 'Our Prayers Are With Those On Board'

The Boeing Co. (NYSE:BA) has released a statement on the Malaysia Airlines flight that crashed near the Ukraine-Russia border on Thursday.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with those on board the Malaysia Airlines airplane lost over Ukrainian airspace, as well as their families and loved ones," Boeing said in the statement. "Boeing stands ready to provide whatever assistance is requested by authorities."

Flight MH17, which was carrying 295 passengers and crew, was shot down by rebels, according to reports from the Interfax-Ukraine news agency. This is not confirmed. However, the agency also reported that an official with the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said the claims the plane was shot down at all have yet to be confirmed.

The Boeing 777 was traveling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. It crashed close to the city of Donetsk. Everyone aboard the plane was killed.

Reuters reports the crash site is about 25 miles from the Russian frontier.
