Those, who purchased the Collector’s Edition of “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain,” have access to a bonus episode that was cut from the main game. The bonus episode, titled “Kingdom of the Flies,” was intended to be the Episode 51 in the main game, and can be played in the exclusive Blu-Ray disc that comes in the Collector’s Edition.

GameSpot, when checking out the contents of the collector’s edition Blu-Ray, uncovered the bonus “Kingdom of the Flies” episode. Originally, the collector’s edition Blu-Ray was only advertised to have all of the game’s trailers and a number of behind-the-scenes footage, so it looks like those, who pre-ordered this version, got a lot more than they bargained for.

Since the “Kingdom of the Flies” was cut out of the main game, the episode has half-finished cut-scenes and storyboard drawings to help tell the episode’s story. While not finished, the cut episode does feature full voice acting, according to VG24/7, and it also gives insight to the motivations for Big Boss and the game’s antagonist Liquid Snake.

Interestingly enough, the episode does not just tie in to the events of “Metal Gear Solid V,” but it also helps connect it to the other games' set further down the series’ timeline. As fans of the series know, “The Phantom Pain” follows up from the events of “Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater” and the PSP exclusive “Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker,” both of which are prequels to the very first game in the series.

The episode itself is not that essential, since it was cut out from the main game, but it is a nice bonus for those who decided to pick up the Collector’s Edition of the game. Many have described the game’s plot to be excellent but a bit convoluted, so anything that adds to it should please most “Metal Gear” fans.

“Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain” is available now for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the Windows PC. The game has been universally praised by critics and gamers alike, and will most likely be a game of the year candidate.
