“Borderlands 3’s” creative director has confirmed that the main story will last longer than the previous “Borderlands 2.” It’ll also be the longest story mode in all of the “Borderlands” games. However, we’ve yet to know if it’ll last longer on a completionist playthrough.

Creative director Paul Sage confirms that the main “Borderlands 3” story quests would last around 35 hours if the player focused on it alone in his interview with VentureBeat. “The length of the game being 35 hours, if you just go through the main story – that’s not including doing too many side missions.” Sage said to the news outfit.

Comparing to the previous games, the original “Borderlands’” story lasted 22 hours and 30 minutes according to HowLongToBeat site which keeps records of video game clear times. Meanwhile, “Borderlands 2” lasts for 30 hours and 30 minutes while the “Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel” is 17 hours and 30 minutes. At best, “Borderlands 3’s” 35 hours can provide fans with canon content which could continue the “Borderlands” story in the future.

The “Borderlands” series is known for its looting first-person shooter gameplay where players can obtain rare loot through fighting enemies in the game and taking on quests. Depending on the player’s style, they can opt to go through the main story to get some good loot or complete side quests to find better items to make the future battles less difficult. If the players try to complete every side quest, all of the “Borderlands” games have them covered.

For the original game, trying to complete everything would take 63 hours and 30 minutes, the sequel takes 114 hours, and the "Pre-sequel" entry takes 49 hours and 30 minutes. The “Borderlands 3” main story runs barely holds any candle to these games except for the Pre-Sequel.

For now, the developers have yet to confirm how long will a completionist run last for “Borderlands 3.” Nevertheless, Gearbox Software delivered when fans asked for another “Borderlands” games. However, we have yet if the upcoming entry will hold up to the quality of previous games where fans kept on actively playing for years after its release.

“Borderlands 3” is scheduled for release this September 2019.
