Oil conglomerate BP and The Beverly Hillbillies' may have more in common than you think.

Similarity #1: Jed Clampett and BP have both discovered massive amounts of oil.

- While the leader of the Clampett clan was shootin' at some food, out from the ground came a bubblin' crude (oil, that is... black gold, Texas tea). On the other hand, BP made a massive natural gas discovery while actually hunting for natural gas. The company today discovered a new high-pressure reservoir of gas in its Shah Deniz field in Azerbaijan.

Similarity #2: The Clampetts and BP both have maaaassive money.

- Oh, if Mr. Drysdale were alive today, he would court BP to the ends of Rodeo Drive. The company has surfed the waves of crude's record highs, but, since the aforementioned gas discovery, shares of the equity have seen little volatility. The slumbersome shares are attributable to the fact that high-pressure natural gas discoveries usually don't see immediate production. Regardless, BP execs surely do well for themselves...

Similarity #3: Dash Riprock (Elly's on-again, off-again boyfriend) and Shah Deniz.

- Think it's a coincidence that the word Dash can be found in the words Shah Deniz? Okay, so maybe I'm stretching a bit. Hmm... maybe Jethro could finally end his career search as a financial writer after all.
