The guy loves his mom. What can we say? And when you’re an A-list celebrity and have been named Sexiest Man Alive, you can have it all, including your independence, right?

But living with his mother, Gloria, means much more than that for Cooper who lost his father two years ago. The actor said they both need each other after Charles Cooper passed away at the age of 71 due to a long illness, which wasn't made public, in a new interview with Details magazine.

"The best way I can answer that is to say we're surviving. Both of us," said the 38-year-old actor. "Let's face it: It's probably not easy for her, by the way, to be living with her son. It's life. And right now, two years after my father's death, this is where we are. My family is very close, and my dad dying was brutal for all of us. It was a schism, and its aftershock has not stopped. And we need each other. So here we are."

He continues: "But don't get me wrong. It's not without complications. It's not like I live in a compound and she's in the guesthouse. No. She's in the next room. But here's the thing: She's a cool chick. We can hang, and she can roll with the punches. If that wasn't the case, there's no way."

Cooper, who’s better known for his comedic roles like in “The Hangover” movies, was nominated for an Oscar this year for his leading actor role in “Silver Linings Playbook,” starring alongside Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro. (Cooper took his mom as his date on Oscar night.) The praise he received for his performance in the movie was also met with the sudden realization that many people didn’t take him seriously as an actor.

"I never thought about it until I got nominated and then so many people were like, 'What the f***?'" Cooper said in his interview with Details. "I had no idea how many people didn't think I was really an actor."

As for his future, Cooper said that he’d like to have his own family.

“I really hope I have that experience in my life,” he said. “I saw how much joy fatherhood gave my own dad. So I hope it's part of my journey. You go through stages in your life, and fatherhood seems like a natural stage."
