Friday, Brazil's statistical office IBGE announced that the national index of consumer price large, IPCA rose 0.48% month-on-month in April, faster than the 0.20% increase in the previous month. Economists were looking an increase of 0.46%.

Year-on-year, consumer prices increased 5.53% in April, slower than the 5.61% recorded in the preceding month. Economists had expected an increase of 5.5%. A year earlier, in April, consumer prices were up 0.55%.

Meanwhile, the national index of consumer prices or INPC grew 0.55% month-on-month in April, larger than the 0.20% in March. On an annual basis, consumer prices increased 5.83% in April, after rising 5.92% in March.
