San Pedro High School in the Los Angeles Unified School District is on lockdown on Wednesday afternoon after gunshot fire was heard, a school official confirmed to IBTimes on Wednesday.

The school's principal, Jeannette Stevens was set to brief the media about the events, an unidentified person responding at the school's phone number said.

The official could not confirm if a student had been shot.

NBC LA reported that shots were fired around 2:45 p.m. The report said one student was down, citing the Los Angeles Police Department.

Live images from KTLA showed numerous police officers and patrol cars were parked outside the school.

There was no immediate information about the student's condition or if there were suspects, according to the report.
