Officials confirmed Thursday that Brian Laundrie's remains have been found after a comparison of his dental records with the human remains discovered at a Florida preserve on Wednesday.

The FBI in Denver announced on Twitter that “On October 21, 2021, a comparison of dental records confirmed that the human remains found at the T. Mabry Carlton, Jr. Memorial Reserve and Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park are those of Brian Laundrie.”

Laundrie, 23, was the subject of an intense manhunt since Sept. 14. He went missing after authorities found the remains of fiance Gabby Petito at a national forest in Wyoming. Petito's death was ruled a homicide by manual strangulation.

Searchers for Laundrie had a breakthrough on Wednesday when a backpack, a notebook, and clothing were discovered in the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park. Laundrie's parents had joined law enforcement in the search after mostly being uncooperative.

Earlier on Thursday, police confirmed the remains found were “skeletal remains,” and had also found clothing that was “consistent with what he was believed to be wearing" on Sept. 13, North Port Police spokesperson Josh Taylor said in an interview with CNN.

"They are human remains, no doubt there. I would say that the remains were consistent with one individual, you know skeletal remains," he said.

Taylor said that Laundrie's father, Chris Laundrie, was the first to spot a clothing item.

"Chris and Roberta Laundrie have been informed that the remains found yesterday in the reserve are are indeed Brian's," Laundie's attorney Steven Bertolino said in a statement to Fox News. "We have no further comment at this time and we ask you respect the Laundrie family's privacy at this time."
