A medical examiner denied that DNA analysis had been performed on Brian Laundrie, according to a Twitter posting Tuesday afternoon from North Port Police in Florida.

There had been claims that went on viral on Facebook and YouTube that DNA extracted from the remains found near Laundrie’s home did not match his DNA.

Laundrie's skeletal remains were found Wednesday in the Carlton Reserve. FBI officials confirmed on Thursday that the remains were Laundrie using dental records. Some of his belongings had also been found in the vicinity of the remains.

The remains of Laundrie were sent to an anthropologist, according to the family's attorney Steve Bertolino.

“I was told the manner and cause of death were not determined and the remains were sent to an anthropologist for further evaluation,” Bertolino said Friday.

Laundrie's cause of death has yet to be determined by an autopsy report. On Monday, Bertolino said police told him that the autopsy by the Sarasota County medical examiner did not provide concrete results on Laundrie’s death.

Laundrie, 23, was the subject of an intense manhunt for several weeks after the disappearance and death of his fiance Gabby Petito in Wyoming. The couple had documented their cross-country trip on social media.
